Coconut

Coconut is a drupe fruit with three layers: the tough outer layer, fleshy middle layer, and hard inner layer. It has a single seed (the coconut itself) surrounded by the endocarp, which acts like a protective shell. The coconut's layers and seed make it a unique and versatile drupe!

Endocarp (Inner Layer)

The endocarp is like the coconut's armor, a tough and hard shell that protects the seed inside. It makes cracking open a coconut a bit tricky. This strong layer helps the coconut float in water, helping it spread to new places.

Endosperm (Nutrient Layer)

The endosperm is the coconut's pantry, storing nutrients and water for the young coconut plant to grow, helping it sprout and grow into a new coconut tree. It's the white, delicious part we often use for coconut milk and oil.
