Sapphire

Sapphire is a variety of the mineral corundum, composed of aluminum oxide. It is a transparent, blue gemstone that gets its color from the presence of trace elements iron and titanium. Sapphire has a high melting point and is chemically inert, making it useful in high-temperature applications and in electronic components such as LED and laser diodes.
