Overview

Simple machines are basic tools that make work easier by changing the force or direction of a task. There are six types: the lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, and screw. These machines are fundamental in various devices, from seesaws and doors to bicycles and screws.

Inclined Plane

An inclined plane is a simple machine that helps us move objects from one height to another. The force required to lift the object is reduced because the force required to move the object is spread out over a longer distance.

Mechanical Advantage (MA)

The mechanical advantage of an inclined plane is calculated by dividing the length of the ramp by its height. The steeper the slope angle, the greater the mechanical advantage, with less force required to move the object up the ramp.

Force (F)

Force is defined as a push or a pull that can cause an object to accelerate, change direction, or deform. Force is a vector quantity, which means that it has both magnitude (size) and direction. The SI unit of force is Newton (N).
